Memorial Day Weekend- Posted on May 26, 2007

Good afternoon all! Yesterday Rachel and I saw a clip of Sesame Street's "Elmo's World" and he was talking about getting dressed! It was great because Rachel's been really wanting to dress herself latley! She wants to put on her socks by herself, she tried putting on her own sweater yesterday too! She actually did pretty well; she got one arm in. She would NOT let anyone help her get the other arm in... she just walked around with one arm of the sweater on and the other one hanging down as she walked. It was quite funny. This pic I took about a week ago, but it goes to show her interest in dressing herself. We'll see how long it takes for her to REALLY get them on!
Well, tonight is church, I hope that Rachel is ready to go back to her class. She did quite well last week, but previously she was having a hard time enjoying herself in Bible class. She would just watch the other kids and not interact with them. She made her sad face the whole time too! By the end of class she was telling the teachers to get her bag and she was waiting at the door almost about to cry. It was hard to see her like that. She really loves her class, but something seems to have spooked her or she's going through separation anxiety again! I know she will get over it. I'm trying my hardest not to show her my concern, I just cheerfully mention all morning and afternoon that we're going to church and I remind her of all the fun things that she will do in class. She doesn't seem to mind talking it about it..... it's when we get to class she starts making her sad faces. We'll be praying this evening that she will enjoy her class and we'll enjoy our service.
Earlier today we got to visit Grandpa Richard. He seems to be doing well. Rachel just loved playing with Muffin (Granpa and Yaya's doggie). She kept following Muffin and trying to give her kisses. She was much more gentle this time! (When she was younger Rachel didn't know how to control her excitement, so she'd hit Muffin instead of pet gently.) She's learned also from her Elmo "Pets" video that you can to take care of your pet and love it! She did that very well today! She also tried sharing her snack w/ Muffin, which was nice, but it would have made Muffin sick. So instead, she gave one to Grandpa! He was also showing us some things he's done while Yaya's been gone. He did a nice job on the sink and also put up some gutters on the 2nd floor! YIKES! He's a great, hardworking man! We're blessed to have him in our lives too! (I'm sad that I didn't take a pic of Rachel with Grandpa... my camera's battery is charging so I didn't take my camera.) Oh well, next time! We had fun visiting!
WEll, I'll leave you now to have a great Memorial Day weekend! It's good to see so many people enjoying their family and friends during holiday weekends like this one. God bless you!

Good Sunday Evening... we've had a nice day together as a family... Ben, Rachel and I. First we went out to eat at Emmy's (Ben's favorite Mexican restaurant- he loves their Chilaquiles) where we saw all the same waitresses and managers who love to dote(sp?) on Rachel. She loves it! She loves their pancakes (too bad they didn't have it this morning).
Then we went to see my dad ("Papa") b/c Rachel did so well at church yesterday, I told her we could go see Papa and Lala afterward (since they weren't home last night, we went this morning). BTW, she did GREAT in her bible class. She looked a bit worried when we got there, but she was being brave and went to her class without a hitch! ;) Praise God! She had a fun time and did SUPER (well, that's what the teacher told us). :) It was so nice to hear! Our prayers were answered! Back to today... we visited with papa until Lala got home. Rachel got to run and love on Lala for awhile.
Then we left to go to Costco. We went for one thing and came out with 5 or so things! I always do that. I let Rachel pick out a book, she loved 2 Elmo books, but we chose the flap book. (The other one was a book with songs and sound effects, so I didn't want that one!- Parents, you know what I'm talking about with those noisy books and toys!) I got a Karen Kingsbury book called Sunrise... I haven't read any of her fiction books, but I'm sure I'll be reading more. I started reading while Rachel was taking a nap and I am on page 50 or so. It's good! I will probably get some more from the library.
After Costco we went to Petco. We've been promising Rachel some more fish, but just haven't had a chance, and the last time we went no one seemed to be available to help us! So we got 2 more fish, a yellow and black one. I don't know their names. Rachel was so excited to be in the pet store. She loves going round and round to look at all the different fish. She also loves to watch the dogs that are getting groomed. We met a female puppy there today and she was so cute! Only 6 wks old and she let us pet her. Rachel also LOVES to push the little kid-sized carts. She pretends she's shopping and puts things in it, today she put her water bottle in there. We got a small aquarium to hold one fish, it was free with a PALS card and coupon. I think that we're going to give it to Lala and Papa so that Rachel will have a fish at their home. (Mom "lala" got Rachel and play fish tank with 2 fish that look like Nemo and Dorie. It has a small thing that moves the fish around the water and a blueish light that lights up the "aquarium". It's cute, but it uses batteries and the way Rachel leaves the light on, they will need TONS of batteries.) Well, I think that Papa and Lala can handle one fish and Papa already said that he'd clean the bowl! (He really loves his girl.) We had a blast at Petco. I'm telling you..... Rachel already know when we pass by Petco that she got her fish there bc she always says "Pishie-Pishies". How smart is she!?
We came home and played a little and put our fish in our aquarium. We put Rachel down for a nap. I read a while and then we all slept for a good hour or so! It was NICE!
Afterward, I called my parents to see if they were making any dinner or having a BBQ, they said no. I asked them if we could bring some burgers and stuff to eat with them, they said yes! It was a great fast dinner. Afterward, we got to go out to the patio and enjoy the cool evening after the rain. We played and sang patriotic music and some old Aggie songs! It was so much fun! I love to really celebrate this holiday with thinking and praying for our troops and for their families. Also, thinking about the ones who died for our country. They are truly heroes that make my life here in the USA free and safe, of course with the help of our LORD. He's blessed us tremendously, and we need to remember that. I want to make it a priority to continue to pray for our troops and their family members. They put their lives on the line for us (me) and that's the least we (I) could do! God bless America!
